William Troost-Ekong, captain of the Super Eagles, has explained his decision to join Al-Khaloood in the Saudi Arabian Professional Football League.
Troost-Ekong made the move to Paulo Duarte’s team from PAOK Thessaloniki, the Greek Super League champions, in August. He had spent only one season at PAOK, where he helped the club secure the league title.
Addressing the criticism for not opting for a European club, Troost-Ekong mentioned that securing his future was a key factor in his decision.
“I received an offer that was too compelling to ignore. At 31, I need to consider the long-term perspective,” Troost-Ekong shared on the Counter Attack Podcast.
“The Saudi Premier League is highly competitive; in my first match, I played against top-tier players like Benzema, Kante, and Fabinho. These are world-class athletes.”
“However, the opportunity to ensure financial stability for my family and children was a major consideration,” he added.
